Remote Working Part 3 – Best online software
self management more….
Before I give you my arsenal of the best web tools that are sure to assist you to operate remotely, I must alert you to one more point aboutself discipline and especially to do with keeping your focus and levels of concentration
I’ve observed and established a common behavior in friends who work on the Internet and I’ve known for quite a long time and I call this behavior the 50 min effect. I observed these acquaintances who concentrate and work for 50 minutes and then take a complete 10 minute break and are much more efficient and produce a much higher quality of work than contacts who don’t have structured working practises.
OK as promised for your consideration is my list of preferred remote working tools:
Electronic Mail
Google Mail doesn’t cost anything. For my money the search and label (similar to folders) features are most definitely the best I have so far discovered. The downside is it can be a bit slow on older machines
Phone calls
Skype continually perplexed me as the service performance was unacceptable, but a big pat on the back for the designers at Skype now as they have substantially changed the quality of the service. For few dollars a month ! am able to call and conference in any handset and Skype subscriber on Earth. The current version of Skype has a mass of excellent features and there are now plenty of of useful add ons.
Organising Content
Evernote has secured over a million users in no time at all – it enables you to store, organise and annotate any type of digital media in the Cloud. Just go check it out…it’s free.
Invoicing, Time and Expenses capture, Accounting and CRM
You almost certainly know that my burning desire to work remotely was originally encouraged by Quickbooks Online, a small business accounting software web application. But it is easily beaten hands down by the free edition of salesorder.com – a lead to cash system that’s as easy to use as a kettle I looked at NetSuite whose pricing (and people) scared me off. My choice here is salesorder.com – Go check it out.
Can Audio Make a Real Difference on Your Web Site? – Audio Streaming
Everyday someone is developing new audio streaming opportunities for consumers. From the hobbyists to communications veterans the Internet is a new media playground.
Many of these Internet based audio streams are searching for voice over professionals to manage the custom identifiers for the station or podcast.
Software that allows the assembly of multiple audio elements is making is possible for unprecedented growth in audio streaming in an online environment.
Can Audio Make a difference on your web site? Most definably! If performed correctly, it can be a useful and enhancing tool to your site. It can be used to explain in more depth the rewards or benefits of your site and what it has to offer. Using audio provides a more human to human contact feel which makes it more relatable to the visitors.
In England there are many hospital owned and operated radio stations. Some of them are also operating as audio streams on line. The premise is to create a professional sounding station that can entertain and inform hospital patients, visitors and staff. These are typically non-profit stations and are finding tremendous support in the communities they serve.
In some cases these stations might play a particular style of music during certain times of the day and they might have a program geared specifically for children. Many report that these stations are working to improve morale and making the stay in the hospital a bit more tolerable.
Sometimes I quickly click through the audio and realize later that audio might have been helpful. More times than not, I end up going back and listening to what the audio has to say. It must be important if they took the time to put it on there that is my thinking! Besides, it takes a lot more work to place audio on a web site!.
Is it any wonder that this territory is finding favor with businesses who either have a message to share or are willing to invest in a site-wide network where you can listen to music while shopping and perhaps hear of specials that may be of interest.
Audio streams are being consistently integrated into the culture of the Internet in the same way video streaming has taken on a life of its own online.
So, can audio really make a difference on your web site? If done properly and in relation to what your site has to offer, I do feel that audio is a great enhancing tool.

Remote Working Part 2 – Why self discipline is important
The number one reason members of both sexes fail to succeed at working remotely is they fail to realise the essential requirement of good quality organisation and robust self discipline.
I have been toiling remotely for almost a decade since I first unearthed Quickbooks online an ‘on demand’ small business accounting software service and was struck by the fact that if you can perform accounting on the Internet then why shouldn’t you be able to perform other important types of work at a distance?
Whilst working remotely has significant advantages there are numerous mistakes that people make which evolve into issues that cause decreased productivity and reduced morale. The top reason for low work output from remote professionals is disturbance and it is a proven and well known fact that it can take a professional up to twenty minutes to establish their original output level after experiencing a disturbance.
Deeper insights reveal that men and women who are continuously affected by disruptions are more likely to be susceptible to lower memory capability and are prone to developing mental health issues in later life. We exist in an over communicated time and it is critical that you are aware of the problems this causes before you decide to work remotely. When operating remotely you must do everything feasible to reduce the probability of being disrupted.
Here are my most important tips:
1, Get a consistent schedule, tell everyone about it and obsessively maintain it!
Good examples are a specific time of day when you review or compose and reply to electronic mail and make or take telephone calls. Before I began working remotely I used to receive nearly two hundred electronic mails over a period of twenty four hours. Now I think I am unfortunate if I get over 5. To ‘restart’ my electronic mail experience I altered my e-mail address and tenaciously took steps to protect the details being made known to anyone. I then educated everybody who I gave my e-mail address to, to use it wisely and sparingly. I also configured an auto-responder that swiftly informed anyone sending me mail my schedule for attending to mail and if something needed my immediate awareness to mark it as ‘Urgent’.
2. Get rid of alerts.
Disable every feature that can send you a visual or audible alert. This includes portable and
conventional phones and forms of alerts from e-mail such as display events, warning sounds, screen changes to your inbox list and of course facing a window. Get a door on your work place and put up a ‘do not disturb’ sign on it.
In ‘Remote Working Part 3 – What should be in your tool box’ I will reveal my favourite tools and software.
Remote Working Part 1 – How to guide – Introduction
Obviously not all of us is able to work remotely as many jobs require people to be at their office or travel to perform their work face to face. But for those of us are allowed to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share my experiences and offer some practical advice by writing and publishing it on the Internet with the sole objective of providing helpful timesavers for adapting to remote working or managing remote workers.
I would caution you that there are groups of so called ’experts’ on the web who will try and sell you courses for substantial sums of money, trust me you don’t need to do this.
I am blessed to be permitted to work in whatever location I choose and just about everyone who asks me what I do for a living wants to understand how I manage to work remotely. Don’t get me wrong here I am still perfecting the art of remote working as each day I encounter tribes on the Internet who teach me new methods and I am always unearthing new software and approaches that make my life simpler and increase my productivity.
During the past 7 years I have steadily adapted my working processes to allow me to do just about all of my work remotely with a mixture of online tools and solid self management. One late night whilst browsing the net I unearthed Quickbooks online and this inspired me as to what just might be possible. My discovery of online ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was inspiration for me and the beginning of my ‘remote working career.
I must inform you up front that proficiently working remotely is as much about the systems as it is about self discipline. Working remotely also means telling your team members, managers and customers as to what they can expect and how they will stay in touch with you.
In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – Things you should know about managing yourself’ I steer you through how to focus.
Remote Working Part 1 – Introduction
Obviously not everybody is allowed to work remotely as there are some types of work that require people to consistently attend their place of work or travel to undertake their work face to face. But for those of us who are allowed to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share my experiences and present some practical guidance by distributing it on the Internet in the hope that I could give others useful timesavers for adapting to remote working or supervising remote workers.
I can tell you that there are many self proclaimed ‘gurus’ on the net who will try and get you to buy online education for significant sums of cash, believe me you don’t have to do this.
I am blessed to be allowed to work anywhere I choose and just about everyone who asks me what I do for a living wants to understand how I am able to work remotely. Don’t get the wrong idea I am still perfecting the science of remote working as all of the time I discover people on the Internet who show me new ways and I am always finding new tools and methods that make my life easier and improve my productivity.
In the past 7 years I have slowly but surely adapted my working methods to enable me to do all of my work remotely with a selection of internet tools and rigid self discipline. One early morning whilst browsing the Internet I found Quickbooks online and this made me aware of what just might be possible. My encounter with online ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was a special moment for me and the start of my ‘remote working experience.
I have to state up front that successfully working remotely is as much about the systems as it is about self discipline. Working remotely also means educating your co-workers, managers and customers as to what they can expect and how they will keep in touch with you.
In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – Self discipline essentials’ I discuss how to focus.
Taking A Look At The Efficiency Of Audio Books
Audio books are a great alternative to the radio during the long commute to work everyday. Audio books are also a great product for avid readers who are too busy to find time to sit down and read. Parents enjoy them for the educational opportunities they offer their children. Audio books are a popular form of entertainment because they are easily accessible at a low cost.
One of the most popular ways to get audio books is to search online. With a plethora of titles available, it’s almost impossible not to find what you’re looking for. Many of the audio books online can be directly downloaded onto your computer or portable media player. Others, are available for ordering on compact disc or in cassette tape format. Downloads are often less expensive, and sometimes even free, depending on the website you use and what you are searching for. Many sites, like www.free-books.org, offer free downloads of your favorite informative or educational audio book. Fiction books are often available for a discounted rate.
Another popular feature of audio books online is that you can rent an audio book in much the same way you would rent a video. Several companies offer a subscription-based service where customers can pay a monthly fee and have access to an unlimited number of audio books online. Websites, like www.recordedbooks.com and www.jiggerbug.com, offer members unlimited rentals for a low monthly fee. Similar to the Netflix video rental service, members do not have to pay late fees or shipping charges for their selections. This is a great way for book lovers to expand their reading possibilities because they can try new books and genres with no risk.
The wide selection of audio books makes them an attractive alternative to actually reading books. It does not matter what your favorite genre of book is, you can find websites and MP3 audio books that will be sure to cater to your specific tastes. Whether you are a history buff or trying to work on improving some aspect of yourself, there are plenty of websites to help you find what you are looking for. For even more convenience, many companies offer the latest fiction books from the bestseller list as well.
Whether you prefer to have your audio books on a compact disc, a cassette, or in the popular MP3 format, you are sure to find something to suit your needs online. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of websites that offer audio books. Downloading or ordering the newest titles is also more convenient than going to your local library or bookstore. With the advancements that the internet has made in other industries, it was only a matter of time before it also changed the way that people read.

A quick and easy way to insert audio into a webpage
Over the last few years audio and video have become increasingly popular features on web sites. Both types of media, audio and video, can bring a website alive and give it that extra something that will appeal to visitors.
Unfortunately inserting multimedia isn’t always that easy and can be a bit fiddly, particularly for people who are new to building web sites.
Luckily, there is one web site design tool that takes away all the difficulty and makes it a quick and easy task. That software is XSitePro. I’ve not come across any website design software, or other software, that makes it so incredibly simple to add an audio file or a video.
Both types of media are inserted using what are known as XSitePro wizards. The Audio Wizard takes pretty much every format of audio file you will come across (MP3, etc) and the Video Wizard takes most standard video files (AVI, etc) and converts them into a format and size that is appropriate for streaming across the web.
These two wizards are ideal for beginners as they make the process very straight forward and take away all the complexity that you would otherwise have to struggle through, but they’re not just useful aids for beginners or newcomers to web site design.
Power users can also benefit hugely from the Audio and Video Wizards, as they save a considerable amount of time. With XSitePro experienced users don’t have to juggle with several different tools to achieve the goal, just the one tool will do everything in record time. A few clicks, and it is done – the conversion, the code, and the uploading. Very quick and very easy.
So, if you’ve struggled with adding audio and video to your sites, or have avoided making use of multimedia when building your websites because your worried it is beyond your abilities, now you have no excuse.

Audio Books Are Environmentally Friendly
Gone are the days where learning to read and write was compulsory to acquiring knowledge; not anymore because of the technology of audio books. Thanks to audio book technology, one can now also listen to fun and entertainment books, like novels, etc without necessarily having the reading/writing knowledge.
Many people insist that the ease of just “listening” to their favorite book and still getting the information therein, as opposed to dedicating time to “reading” it, makes the audio books format much more appealing to them. One can conveniently say it’s because of the ease and comfort of audio book format that is why more book titles now also have the audio book format as well as the physical book format.
The fact that an audio book and a physical book would contain the same information makes it a lot wiser to “listen” to a book while driving daily than to allocate blocks of time to read that same book in normal book format. Audio books now help many people that want to gain knowledge but don’t have the time to spend studying.
All these advantages of audio books can be said to be why children, adults and even the old folks out there prefer audio books. Also, since hardcover and paperback books are a lot more expensive to produce than audio books, it won’t be surprising if audio books become more popular than other book formats.
Audio books help to save lots of trees and at the same time help to spread knowledge. Another very important advantage of audio book is the fact that people who are always doing household chores can still do them while listening to audio books.
Light or not, audio books can be listened to, unlike normal paperback or hardcover that can’t be read during the dark. Now that you have seen the many uses of audio books, what’s still holding you from getting your own?
